School Building Leader (SBL) Certification Program
The Renaissance Charter School, in conjunction with the College of St. Rose and the Center for Integrated
Teacher Education (CITE), offers a program to prepare educators for New York State Certification as a School
Building Leader.  This program is specifically designed for people interested in founding and/or leading
small
schools
and charter schools.

The program's first cohort started in October 2005 and will be finishing this summer.  A second cohort is now
being formed for October 2006.

All instructors in the program are leaders in the small school/charter school movements of New York.  Courses
are held primarily on Saturdays at The Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights, Queens.  

Interviews dates for interested candidates are September 12 (Brooklyn), 14 (Oceanside), and 19 (Yonkers).

  • The cost of the 25-credit program is $6400,
    much more reasonable than most other SBL
    programs.  Tuition is payable by course
    rather than by semester.
  • Courses are taught at The Renaissance
    Charter School, one of New York's most
    successful charter/small schools.  You will
    see the context of theory.
  • Courses are taught primarily on Saturdays.
